Description of the attraction
The Church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God is one of the youngest churches in Brest. Until now, it has the status of a temporary prayer room. The temple was founded in 1999 with the blessing of the Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk Filaret in the new microdistrict Kovalevo in the south-west of Brest. Services began to be held from the first day of the foundation of the temple. The abbot of the temple is Hegumen Ignatius (Lukovich).
At first, the services were held in the open air, however, this did not stop the parishioners. They say that when the unfinished church on Christmas Day already had walls, but there was no floor, people stood right on the ground. It was very cold, but no one left before the end of the festive service.
The Tikhvin church in Brest is the youngest and the middle age of the parishioners. Young people come here, young married couples with children. A Sunday school for children and an Orthodox sisterhood are organized at the church.
The enthusiasm and resilience of the parishioners became known far beyond the borders of Brest. Soon they managed to raise money for a new altar and improvement of the Tikhvin church outside. Now the temple is almost completed. The domes of the church were covered with metal gilded using a technology similar to the domes of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow.
Recently, the Church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God has been very popular among newlyweds who seek to get married there. They say that the young church has a special holiness that protects peace, prosperity and peace in families.
The church contains a list of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God and particles of the relics of many Orthodox saints.
