Moscow Drama Theater. A. S. Pushkin is located in the center of Moscow, on Tsvetnoy Boulevard. The theater was organized in 1950 on the basis of the Chamber Theater, founded in 1914 by Alexander Tairov together with his wife, Alisa Koonen. In 1949 Tairov was dismissed and the theater was closed. On the site of this theater was organized in 1950 by the Moscow Drama Theater. A. S. Pushkin. The theater was headed by the People's Artist of the USSR Vasily Vanin.

A new troupe of the theater was created, which partially included artists from the previous composition. The leading actors in the troupe were: B. P. Chirkov, B. A. Smirnov, A. D. Dikiy, M. M. Nazvanov. The main directors of the theater in the late sixties - early seventies were B. A. Babochkin and I. M. Tumanov.

The theater's repertoire included performances based on plays by Mdivani - Teresa's Birthday and Big Mom. "Shadows" by Saltykov - Shchedrin. "Virgin Soil Upturned" by Sholokhov. "Snowstorm" by Leonov and "The Legend of Paganini" by Balashov. Ostrovsky's play "Slaves".

In the seventies, famous artists worked in the theater: People's Artists of the RSFSR L. Antonyuk, Yu. Averin, O. Viklandt, L. Gritsenko. Honored Artists of the RSFSR S. Bubnov, M. Kuznetsova, F. Mokeev, G. Yanikovsky and others. Since 1971, BN Tolmazov has been the main director of the theater.

From 2001 to 2010, the artistic director of the Moscow Drama Theater. A. S. Pushkin was Roman Kozak - Honored Artist of Russia, a student of Oleg Efremov. In 2010, after his sudden death, Evgeny Pisarev was appointed the chief director of the theater. He is the main director of the theater today.

Many performances of the theater, staged in different years, entered the treasury of theatrical art: "The Scarlet Flower" by S. Aksakov (1949), "Viy" by N. V. Gogol (2003), "Puss in Boots" by Ch. Perrault (2004). "Bullets Over Broadway" by V. Alain (2007) and "The Robbers" by F. Schiller (2009). "Fedor" by M. Tsvetaeva (2009). The leading actors of the theater today: Vera Allentova, Igor Bochkin, Irina Boyakova, Vladimir Zherebtsov, Andrey Mayorov, Irina Malysheva, Andrey Tashkov. In past years, the theater has worked: Faina Ranevskaya, Vladimir Vysotsky, Alexander Porokhovshchikov, Valery Nosik, Georgy Burkov, Oleg Borisov and many others.
