Description of the attraction
Strobl am Wolfgangsee is an Austrian city located in the federal state of Salzburg on the border with Upper Austria. The city is located on the eastern side of Lake Wolfgangsee in the spa region near St. Gilgen.
The famous city of St. Wolfgang is within walking distance of Strobl am Wolfgangsee, there are general excursions, including the Postalm and Schafberg plateau (1783 meters above sea level), which can be reached by cogwheel railway. The area is popular for hiking and water sports in the summer and skiing in the winter.
Strobl gradually became an increasingly popular holiday destination. In the 19th and 20th centuries, events for the aristocracy and bourgeoisie began to be held here regularly during their summer stay in Bad Ischl. After the end of World War II, the city was in the American occupation zone.
In Strobl am Wolfgangsee, there is the late Baroque church of St. Sigismund, where Prince Tassilo von Fürstenberg is buried.
Every year in August, the city hosts a polo tournament.
