Description of the attraction
The largest lake of Ahmedabad, Kankaria, was created in 1451 during the reign of Sultan Qutubuddin. It is located in the south-eastern part of the city, in the most densely populated area of Maninagar, and has a rounded shape, and its perimeter length is about 2.3 kilometers. At one time, many kings and rulers of the principality bathed in its waters. During its construction, the possibility of pollution was taken into account, therefore, together with the lake, a special purification system was created, which, unfortunately, is no longer operating today.
On one of its banks there is a summer palace, in which, as they say, the Mughal Emperor Jahangir and his wife loved to relax, as well as a zoo and an amusement park for children. And right in the center of the lake is the famous Nagin Wadi Garden (translated as "beautiful garden").
The lake is a favorite picnic spot for residents and guests of the city, and it is very crowded on its shores at any time of the day. But Lake Kankaria is especially beautiful at night, when its shores and waters are illuminated by a huge number of lights of different colors, creating bizarre patterns on its surface. And the many cafes and restaurants on the waterfront will make your vacation on the coast of Cancaria even more enjoyable.
If you wish, you can rent a boat and ride on the waters of the lake, or take a short “trip” around it on the Atal Express train, which was specially made in London. The attraction began its work in 2008, after a decision was made to reconstruct this place, and was named after the former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayi.
