Description of the attraction

The National Museum of Laos is housed in a French colonial-style building in the first half of the 20th century. In those days, the commissariat was located here, and now 15 rooms, where orders were previously given, important decisions were made and fateful documents were printed, are given over to the exhibits of the National Museum.

In 1990, the Museum of the 1970 Lao Revolution opened here. In 2000, it was renamed and became a national museum. His collections are dedicated to the country's most ancient and modern history. In 2007, the United States of America financially supported this museum with a great future. Today it is the largest of the ten museums created and managed by the Lao government.

Each hall of the museum is dedicated to a specific topic. Here you can see an exhibition of fossilized dinosaur remains found in Savannakhet, a selection of artifacts of ancient civilizations that lived in Laos, objects of the Mon and Khmer kingdom (first millennium AD), Lansang state (until 1707). An interesting collection of furniture and things from the period of French colonial rule (1893-1945). Many exhibits are dedicated to the military conflicts of Laos. This is the first war in Indochina (1945-1954), American intervention in the country's politics and civil war (1964-1973), the declaration of independence of Laos in 1975. Finally, another room tells about the development of the country after 1975.

The museum has a souvenir shop and a small art gallery, where exhibitions of local painters are held.
