Description of the attraction

The Western Australia Aquarium is located just 20 minutes' walk from the center of Perth on Hillarys Boat.

The history of its creation is very interesting: in the 1970s, entrepreneur Morris Kahn, together with his son, was engaged in diving in the Red Sea. At some point, the boy began to float to the surface very quickly, and his father, in order to help him avoid decompression sickness, abruptly swam after him and as a result damaged his eardrums. The rest of the vacation, Maurice Kahn spent on the shore, where he began to think about how to transfer the underwater life of the oceans to the shore, so that everyone who, for one reason or another, could not dive, could admire it. This is how the idea of creating an entertainment park "Coral World" appeared, branches of which were opened in many countries of the world.

In 1991, Maurice Kahn purchased the Underwater World Park in Perth in order to build a huge aquarium in its place with close to natural habitats. His idea was to make people feel at the bottom of the ocean! I must say that Kahn's company succeeded - today "Coral World International" is considered a recognized authority in the field of recreation of complex marine ecosystems and growing corals in artificial conditions.

In 2001, Underwater World was renamed Aquarium of Western Australia - AQWA. Today it is possible to get acquainted with all the diversity and splendor of the marine flora and fauna of the coastline of Western Australia. The exhibits are divided into five sections that recreate different ecosystems: the Great South Coast, the Perth Coast, Marmion Marine Park, the Shipwreck Coast and the High North. In the Far North zone, visitors are offered to discover one of the most remote regions in the world, where dangerous marine animals live - blue spiky stingray, clown fish, crocodiles and deadly poisonous stone fish. On the Shipwreck Coast, you can meet the inhabitants of the warm waters of the Indian Ocean - sharks, huge rays, turtles, and admire the limestone reefs teeming with a variety of marine fauna. The Perth coast is home to amazing ancient reefs and sandy coves where jellyfish and cuttlefish scurry among vibrant living corals. Octopuses, lobsters, seahorses and other inhabitants of Perth's coastal waters can also be seen here. The Great South Coast invites you to dive into the depths of the cold Southern Ocean to discover mystical sea dragons, delicate corals, iridescent sponges, unique devil fish and ball fish. Finally, in the Marmion Marine Park, you can swim in the pool with some marine life, visit Stingray Bay and relax in the coral lagoon. Over the 20 years of its existence, the aquarium has been visited by more than 5 million people!
