Description of the attraction
The monument to the great commander G. Zhukov in the city of Yekaterinburg was erected in 1995. The grand opening of the monument was timed to coincide with the half-century anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany. The monument is located in front of the headquarters of the Ural Military District.
Funds for the construction of the pedestal were sorely lacking, so the idea of erecting a monument to the marshal remained at the development stage for a long time. The process got under way when the first sponsors appeared with the idea of creating the so-called “Marshal Zhukov Fund”. After a while, money gradually began to flow. The sponsors were not only the Ural enterprises, but also ordinary citizens. Money transfers came from Moscow, Kazan and many other cities of Russia. Thus, a substantial amount was collected, but the inflation that came in 1992 depreciated the accumulated funds.
Then the regional administration decided to hold a charity event. For this purpose, the Perm State Sign's factory printed special tickets for voluntary donations, on which G. Zhukov was depicted. As a result, the required amount of money was collected, after which work began on the creation of the structure.
The authors of the monument were architects G. Belyakin, S. Gladkikh and sculptor K. Krünberg, who worked on the creation of the composition for more than four years. They decided to immortalize the marshal with a naked blade on a reared horse. Two awards can be seen on the commander's tunic. However, such a structure was rather unstable, which is why the construction of the monument was not carried out for a long time. Then the masters of "Uralmash" decided to remake the hollow structure of the monument into a monolithic one, without a steel frame, and nevertheless brought it to life. The total height of the monument is about seven meters.
