Description of the attraction

The Governor's Palace is located in the northern part of the Kazan Kremlin. It occupies the highest part of the Kremlin territory. The single complex of the Governor's Palace also includes the Syuyumbeki Tower and the Palace Church.

The building of the palace was built in 1845 - 1848. specially for the military governor. The palace was designed by the famous architect K. A. Ton, known for such architectural structures as the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and the Great Kremlin Palace in Moscow. The construction of the palace building was supervised by the architect A. I. Peske, who arrived from St. Petersburg to Kazan to conduct restoration work after a large fire that happened in 1842. The interior decoration of the palace was carried out by M. P. Korinthsky. On the site of the construction of the palace in the khan's fortress, the palace ensemble was located. In the 18th century, this place was the home of the chief commandant. The building was the Governor's Palace until 1917.

The Governor's Palace, founded in 1845, consists of the main building and semicircular buildings adjoining it from the north side for household services with a passage to the courtyard. The building of the palace was built of bricks and has two main floors, a mezzanine floor and a basement. The building structure is symmetrical. The risalit is located in the center of the main facade. At the level of the second floor, there are eight semi-columns in pairs with smooth trunks and capitals with a Corinthian order. The pediment is formed by three keeled arches. In the middle arch there is the coat of arms of the Republic of Tatarstan. The main facade has two entrances - a porch on two columns, decorated with palm capitals. The upper part of the columns has spiral connections, the lower ones are vertical. The first floor of the building is decorated with openwork semicircular windows. The architecture of the Governor's Palace is consonant with the features of the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow.

Restoration work in the building has been going on since 1950. In 1983, the main facade was restored according to the project of the architect S. A. Kozlova. 1996-1997 the semicircular annex located on the north side of the building was restored. The complete restoration of the building and its interiors was completed by 2001. Today the building is the Presidential Palace. The presidential standard flutters on the central projection of the building's facade.
