Once this city was the capital of the Siberian Khanate, which bore the name of Chingi-Tura. Then in its place the travelers founded their settlement, which became the first Russian city in Siberia. Today, walks in Tyumen provide an opportunity to plunge into history, walk along the same paths as the pioneers, see the oldest temples and places of worship in this region.

Walks in Tyumen and its shrines

On the banks of the Tura is the complex of the Holy Trinity Monastery, built in 1616. Today it is one of the oldest churches and monasteries, the main attraction of Tyumen. There are other places of worship in the city, which you can see on your own or under the guidance of an experienced guide.

At the end of the 18th century, stone buildings appeared on the territory of the Holy Trinity Monastery (before that, only wooden buildings were erected), today they are accessible for inspection. In addition, the Nikolskaya Church (another name is the Exaltation of the Cross) belongs to the 18th century, its five domes covered with gold leaf on a clear sunny day are visible from afar.

You can also see the Church of the Savior, although it was left without a bell tower, but it keeps the legend that Alexander II prayed in it, who once visited the city. Among other religious shrines of the city, the following are worthy of attention of travelers: the Church of Michael the Archangel; All Saints Temple; Kazarovskaya Mosque (a wooden building appeared in the 1820s, a stone one - at the end of the 19th century); Tyumen synagogue.

As you can see from this list, people of different nationalities have long lived in the Siberian city, many of whom did not come here of their own free will, and many, on the contrary, came to "conquer Siberia" on their own.

Travel to the world of Tyumen architecture

Excursions, where the main object becomes the amazing urban architecture, are also popular in Tyumen, as are walks through churches and mosques. True, the streets have lost their historical names, but they have retained beautiful buildings. For example, a number of architectural masterpieces of the 19th century are located along Respublika Street, including the building of the Academy, built in the Renaissance style, the Averkiev house, decorated with intricate balconies, the house of the merchant Kolokolnikov.

Here, in the center of the city, there is a building in which the local Duma sat before the revolution. This interesting object was built in the style of Russian classicism, but retains the features that are traditional for local architecture.
