Since Soviet times, the most important tourist route in the center of Russia has been the so-called "Golden Ring" - many ancient cities with amazing architecture, stunning antiquities, artifacts stored in local museums. Vladimir is also included in this popular tourist route, which means that for the modern traveler there are many interesting objects here.
Walks along the historic Vladimir
In this city, the main thing is not to get confused by the abundance of ancient monuments, and not to set the task of getting to know all the available sights in detail, even a month of stay will not be enough for this. Therefore, you need to start with a sightseeing tour of the historic city center, with a stop at iconic points.
After the journey, accompanied by the story of an experienced guide, you can independently return to the monuments you like or the sights of interest. You need to be prepared for the fact that the city is always full of tourists, many of whom come to admire the shrines of ancient Russia - the famous paintings and frescoes of the author of "Trinity" Andrei Rublev and his colleague Daniil Cherny.
The list of special monuments of ancient history includes architectural places of worship, which are under the protection of UNESCO:
- Assumption Cathedral, the beginning of the construction of which dates back to the 12th century, with frescoes by Rublev and the most beautiful iconostasis of the 18th century;
- Dmitrievsky Cathedral with its unique stone carvings of the 12th century;
- one of the most ancient temple complexes is the Mother of God-Rozhdestvensky Monastery.
Old buildings dating back to later centuries have survived in Vladimir, including the Christ-Christmas Church dating from the 17th century, the Holy Gates, and other architectural religious monuments. Some of the religious buildings are now not used for their intended purpose, for example, the Trinity Church hosts an exhibition to showcase works made by the hands of contemporary local craftsmen.
Architectural journey
A walk around the city is a demonstration of the masterpieces of ancient architecture at almost every step. Local residents call the Golden Gate the main miracle. The purpose of this 12th century building is not only to protect the city from external enemies, but also to demonstrate respect for guests who come for peaceful purposes. Another challenge in the old days was to create a particularly solemn atmosphere for important persons who had to enter the city through this gate.
