Thirty years ago, this port city on the Black Sea was absolutely closed, not only for foreign, but also for domestic tourists, since it was here that the largest naval base of the USSR fleet was located. Today, walks around Sevastopol introduce this page of the city's history and demonstrate the monuments of deep antiquity.
Walks in the districts of Sevastopol
Many settlements located on the Black Sea coast are proudly called cities, but at the same time they consist not only of the urban part, but also of the surrounding villages. The same can be said about Sevastopol - it includes 35 small villages and towns, as well as the famous Balaklava (base of Soviet submarines) and the ancient city of Inkerman.
Many routes pass precisely through the Balaklava district, they include the following interesting objects and places:
- directly to Balaklava;
- Inkerman and its main attraction - the cave monastery;
- the ruins of Kalamita, a beautiful fortress built in the Middle Ages;
- a factory of vintage wines, tasting the products of which leaves a sweet aftertaste for sightseers.
The Gagarinsky district offers its historical monuments, it is here that the Tauric Chersonesos, a unique archaeological complex, is located. Now it is a national reserve. The most beautiful bays of Sevastopol are located in the same area, so walking around the city can be combined with relaxing on the sea coast.
What to visit in Sevastopol
The main journey
The name of the Leninsky district does not say anything about the main cultural and historical values that are located in this part of Sevastopol. From here, from the current Nakhimov Square, the city began to grow, the earliest architectural structures appeared here, today any guest of the city can get to know them.
The most important sights of the region and the whole of Sevastopol are the Intercession Cathedral, its "colleague", the Vladimir Cathedral, the Count's pier. True, the most expensive hotels, hotels and restaurants are also located here.
Wonderful views of the city and the coastline open from the top of the Central Hill, to which you can climb the Sinop Stairs. At the top of the hill you can see a monument of the recent past - a 20-meter-high statue of V. I. Lenin, the leader of the proletariat, like a real tourist, looks down at the bays of amazing beauty, giants-liners and Primorsky Boulevard.
