Why do tourists go to the Czech Republic? The question seems to be rhetorical. Of course, behind the medieval charm of Prague's golden autumn and the miraculous properties of water from thirteen Karlovy Vary springs, one of which, upon closer acquaintance, turns out to be the famous Becherovka liqueur. Believe it or not, a beach vacation in the Czech Republic is an equally interesting scenario for a long-awaited summer vacation.

Where to go to sunbathe?

When at the top they were deciding which lands to cut off the Czech Republic, they did not foresee an outlet to the sea for it. This did not bother the inhabitants of a small European country and they arranged excellent resort areas on the lakes. The most popular and suitable for a beach holiday in the Czech Republic are two of them:

  • Since the beginning of the twentieth century, Machovo Lake has been popular with fans of outdoor recreation. It is located 65 km from the capital of the country and is named after the Czech poet Karel Ginek Mahy.
  • A little more than two hundred kilometers separate Prague from the Lipno reservoir. This area is considered a recognized center of active tourism in the country. On Lake Lipno, travelers can enjoy not only water activities, but also cycling, hiking, and in winter - snowboarding and bobsledding.

Weather features of a beach holiday in the Czech Republic

The country's climate can be called moderate. It is characterized by warm summers, cloudy and humid winters, and autumn and spring, which are quite comfortable for active tourism.

The swimming season on Czech lakes starts at the end of May, when the water in the reservoirs warms up to + 18 ° С, and the air - up to + 25 ° С. At the height of the season, thermometers show + 29 ° С and + 23 ° С in the air and water, respectively, and it is possible to swim and sunbathe on the local beaches until the end of September.

Pond for the king

The history of Macha Lake began millions of years ago, when it was a part of an ancient sea. Having dried up, the lake turned into a peat bog, in which in the middle of the XIV century, King Charles ordered to dig a pond: the monarch was known as a great admirer of fresh fish.

Today, Machovo Lake attracts not only local residents to its shores. On its beaches you can see Germans, Dutch and even Italians, the landscapes surrounding the reservoir are so charming and the life of a visiting tourist is comfortably arranged.

The main resorts on the shores of Lake Macha are Starye Alloys and Doksa. The first offers an idyllic holiday village-style where all residents become good neighbors during their holidays, rent rooms in cozy family hotels and enjoy leisurely days on the beach and evenings in coastal restaurants. Young people and families with children who prefer a variety of active leisure will like more in Doksy. The town has a couple of cozy museums, one of which is dedicated to fairy tales, a cinema and even an old castle.

Beach holidays in the Czech Republic on Lake Machovo are organized in four places:

  • The Old Alloys are called the local Varadero because of the particularly light sand. The beach of the village is equipped with a children's pool, playground, trampolines and changing rooms.
  • The central beach in Doksy is located a few minutes away by boat, which regularly runs along the shores of Lake Macha.
  • South Beach Kluchek will appeal to lovers of romance, lovers and fans of silence.
  • The east coast of the lake is the home of campers and nudist fans.

You can get the necessary information at the tourist center located in Doksy on Republic Square.

The easiest way to get to the lake is by renting a car or by train from Prague to Ceska Lipa. The train stops at Doksy. It is convenient to move between the beaches on a pleasure boat.

Lipno on the Vltava

For the first time, the project for the construction of a dam on the Vltava appeared at the end of the 19th century, but the Czechs were able to build it only a few decades later. The emerging reservoir began to be used, among other things, for beach recreation. In the Czech Republic, due to the lack of the sea, it began to play the role of the main body of water for active tourism.

The main advantages of the reservoir are its large area and an altitude of more than 700 meters above sea level. They guarantee frequent winds and opportunities for sailing, windsurfing and kiteboarding. Admirers of these water sports often refer to Lipno as the Bohemian Sea.

For lovers of a relaxing holiday, the reservoir has equipped beaches, among which the most suitable are located in the vicinity of the town of Frymburk. In addition to unique natural landscapes, guests of local hotels are offered attractions in the water park and an eleven-kilometer bike path.
