Most of the rivers of Venezuela (more than half of all rivers in the country) replenish the waters of the Orinoco River, one of the largest waterways in all of Latin America.

Apure River

Apure flows through the lands in the southeastern part of the country and is a left tributary of the Orinoco. The total length of the current is 1580 kilometers. The source of Apure is located in the Cordillera de Merida (town of Uribante). The mouth is the Orinoco River.

The river is quite full of water and strong floods are typical for it. This period falls in May-November (rainy season). By the end of the season, the water level in the river can even rise above the permissible by 12 meters.

The river bed is navigable for 1400 kilometers during the maximum water period. After the recession, ships can only ascend to the city of San Fernando de Apure.

Guaviare river

The river passes through the territory of Colombia and Venezuela and is also one of the tributaries of the Orinoco. The total length of the channel is 1497 kilometers (of which 630 kilometers are navigable). Guaviar begins at the confluence of two rivers - Aryari and Guayabero. The river receives several tributaries, among which the most important is Inirida.

Caroni river

The Caroni is one of the rivers of Venezuela that flows into the waters of the lower Orinoco, with a total channel length of 920 kilometers. The river is navigable 100 kilometers up from its confluence.

The source of the river is in the Sierra Pacaraima mountains. The channel passes through the lands of the Guiana Plateau, forming rapids and beautiful waterfalls along the course. The largest and most beautiful waterfall, which is called "Lower Waterfalls", is located near the mouth (just eight kilometers from the confluence). The height of this natural landmark is 40 meters.

Meta river

Meta is a river passing through the lands of Colombia and Venezuela (left tributary of the Orinoco). The lower course often takes on the role of a natural border between these states.

The total length of the current, including the mouth, is 1000 kilometers. The navigable part of Meta is approximately 785 kilometers. The source of the river is in the Eastern Cordillera (eastern slopes). The river is navigable almost always (for eight months), from the village of Maralya to the very place of its confluence.

Zulia river

Zulia is a river in Colombia and Venezuela, a tributary of the Catatumbo. The source of Zulia is located in Colombia (Santander department) in the eastern part of the Andes (3500 meters above sea level). The place of confluence is the waters of the Catatumbo River (Venezuela, state of Zulia).

The length of the river is 310 kilometers. The main tributaries are: Grita; Tachira; Orope; Peralonso; Medio; Tarra and others. The river is characterized by frequent floods.
