On the shores of the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan, there is a state that evokes the most controversial associations among the majority of the world's population. This is, of course, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The capital of North Korea is Pyongyang. This state appeared on the world map in 1948, after the proclamation of South Korea's independence. The main ruling party in the DPRK is the Workers' Party of Korea, led by First Secretary Kim Jong-un.
Pyongyang, without any exaggeration, is the center of culture, politics and economy of the entire state.
The city's attractions
The capital of North Korea survived the 1950-53 war. As a result, many buildings and even entire neighborhoods had to be completely restored. The avenues and buildings were erected in a new way, in many respects resembling the style of the Soviet states. In general, the entire city is filled with architectural monuments that remind of the Soviet era.
- The Cholima Monument is a unique statue that symbolizes the craving of the Korean people for new achievements, for a breakthrough in the construction and promotion of socialism. The monument was opened in 1961. Its creation was timed to coincide with the 49th birthday of Kim Il Sung. The entire ensemble, so to speak, is standard for socialist sculpture: a simple worker, sitting on a horse, carries a letter with a message from the party.
- The Juche Ideas Monument is another architectural monument dedicated to the next anniversary of Kim Il Sung. This time the 70th anniversary was celebrated. The pedestal is 170 meters high. There is a huge torch at the top, and the word "Juche" is written on the obverse. Statues of a collective farmer, a worker and a representative of the intelligentsia were erected near the monument.
- Kim Il Sung Square is the main venue for various celebrations. The most famous square in North Korea regularly hosts parades, demonstrations and all kinds of performances.
Athletic facilities
The authorities of Pyongyang and North Korea as a whole are concerned about the nation leading a healthy lifestyle and achieving sports success at the global level. The city boasts several stadiums that are the largest sports arenas in the world. The Kim Il Sung Stadium can accommodate about 70,000 fans. But that's not all. The May Day Stadium is rightfully considered the largest stadium on the globe. Here, about 150 thousand spectators can easily watch various competitions.
