Five national parks of this Balkan republic are a worthy decoration of Montenegro and an object of attraction for thousands of tourists - both domestic and foreign. Protected areas are located in different parts of the country, and some of them occupy a worthy place in the UNESCO World Heritage List. All reserves in Montenegro have the official status of national parks, one of the areas of economic activity of which is tourism.

Bird lake

Located on the territory of Albania and Montenegro, Skadar Lake can rightfully be called a bird lake:

  • In addition to the Balkans, the largest freshwater reservoir in terms of area, the national park includes five ornithological reserves, where a huge nature conservation and research work is being carried out. Hundreds of bird species nest on the shores of Lake Skadar and just as many choose it as a stopover during seasonal migrations.
  • Fans of ancient architecture and history will love a guided tour of the ancient monasteries built along the shores of the lake between the 14th and 15th centuries. One of the cloisters - the Kom monastery - has been in operation since the first third of the 15th century and up to now.
  • Boat excursions organized by local residents are the most popular visas for educational holidays in this Montenegrin nature reserve.
  • In summer, you can swim and sunbathe on the beaches on the lake shores - the season lasts from May to mid-September.

Only canyons can be better than mountains

This is exactly what tourists who have visited the national reserve of Montenegro, located on the banks of the Tara River, think. Making its way through the rock mass, the water stream has formed a canyon of amazing beauty, the height of which reaches 1300 meters in some areas. They say that the gorge in this national park in the Balkans is not inferior in size or beauty to the Grand Canyon in the United States. You can make sure of this by going on an excursion to this unique natural attraction, inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

The lists include

UNESCO has taken under its wing and another national park of Montenegro - Durmitor. Its main attraction is the mountain range of the same name, and the tourist infrastructure includes a ski and snowboard resort and dozens of hiking trails. The main cycling trails are laid along the shores of glacial lakes, the most beautiful of which is considered to be Crno Jezero.
