Many holidays in Egypt are celebrated in accordance with the established centuries-old traditions, and the Egyptians, regardless of their religious beliefs, are not alien to the celebration of both Muslim and Christian holidays.
Holidays and festivals in Egypt
- Zham en-Nessim: on this day, the Egyptians put on the table a special dish of salted fish - "fesih" (the fish is salted and left to marinate for several months), and many families go to nature for picnics, eat a lot of sweets, present flowers to each other and small souvenirs.
- Sun Festival in Abu Simbel (22 February and 22 October 2015): celebrations are organized for tourists in honor of the holiday, accompanied by dances and songs, a laser show and a costume show. As for the locals, they are not averse to acting as guides and translators for tourists.
- Coptic Christmas (Christian Egyptians are Copts): The holiday (January 7) is accompanied by solemn services and processions of the cross. Pilgrims who come to Egypt at this time prefer to visit holy places - the Church of St. Sergius, the Monastery of St. Catherine, Mount Sinai. But Coptic Christmas is not only religious events: in honor of the holiday, it is customary to gather at a plentiful table, where meat dishes and sweets are present, as well as to take part in folk festivals.
- Flood of the Nile (August): Despite the fact that today the Nile does not flood due to the Aswan hydroelectric complex built in 1971, the Egyptians still celebrate this event for 15 days, which is accompanied by sports competitions in rowing, swimming and windsurfing, flower exhibitions, festive performances.
Event tourism in Egypt
As part of the event tour, you will be invited to take part in the celebration of various events. For example, visit Luxor during the celebration of Abu el-Haggag. For two days, street shows with dances and songs, horse races and stick fights with drum music are held here. In addition, everyone will be able to see the Luxor parade.
If you decide to come to Egypt for the New Year, you can take a break from frost and slush and soak up the African sun (many swim in the sea). It is worth noting that in December-January a festive atmosphere reigns in the Egyptian resorts - in the shopping and entertainment centers and hotel complexes, illuminations are lit and the premises are decorated with artificial spruces or thujas. Despite the fact that the Egyptians celebrate the New Year in September, the hotels organize special entertainment programs for tourists - oriental dances and all kinds of performances will be waiting for you.
Glory to Egypt was brought not only by the most ancient artifacts, but also by fun events, in the celebration of which numerous guests of the country are invited to take part.
