Description of the attraction
The monument "Sailor with a grenade", located in Novorossiysk on Lenin Avenue, is one of the city's attractions. The site for the installation of this monument was not chosen by chance, it was here in March 1943 that the first line of defense passed. The grand opening of the Sailor with a Grenade Monument took place on September 16, 1972 and was timed to coincide with the 29th anniversary of the liberation of Novorossiysk from Nazi troops.
Officially, the monument bears a different name "Sailor-paratrooper". The monument, made of white stone, is three meters high and four meters wide. The monument is a high pedestal, which depicts a sailor, tightly gripping a combat grenade in his hands.
The authors of the monument "Sailor with a grenade" are sculptors Nikolai Ivanovich Nikitin and Nikolai Kirillovich Bozhenenko. Both of them were compatriots from Novorossiysk and fought at the front, so there is no doubt that this monument was made very carefully.
On the reverse side of the stone from which the monument "Sailor with a grenade" is made, you can see a map showing all defense lines, as well as a list of units and units that bravely fought and defended the city of Novorossiysk from the Nazi troops.
