Description of the attraction
Muretto is one of the main attractions of the Italian resort town of Alassio in Liguria, a real symbol of the city itself, which, while remaining true to the traditions of its ancestors, always strives for the future.
Located on Via Dante, this wall, painted with the names of the stars of art, sports and show business, who visited Alassio in different years in the second half of the 20th century, remains the center of the city's social life. The tangible legacy of the "sweet life" that revived Alassio in the 1950s, today invariably attracts the attention of tourists and girls participating in the annual Miss Muretto beauty pageant.
Here is how local artist Mario Berrino describes Muretto's history: “Before becoming famous, it was just a small simple wall that surrounded the city garden. And I was literally devoured by the desire to somehow ennoble it, decorate it, give it life. This opportunity arose when the great Hemingway stayed in Alassio - we decided to hang on the wall various colorful tiles with the names and paintings of famous visitors to the city cafe Caffe Roma. " This is how the legend "Muretto" was born in 1951. The first to leave their mark on her were Hemingway, the Chetra Quartet and Cosimo di Celie. And today on the wall you can read the names of other great contemporaries of the 20th century: Adriano Celentano, Jean Cocteau, Vittorio De Sica, Anita Ekberg, Tour Heyerdahl, Valentino, Hugo Tognazzi and even members of the Italian national football team, which won the World Cup in 1982- m year. In addition, Muretto has become a real symbol of lovers - every year on Valentine's Day, couples in love gather at the wall to enjoy the poetic atmosphere created by the best love letters written here by great people.
