Description of the attraction

The island of St. Anastasia (from 1945 to 1990, during the construction of communism in Bulgaria - the island of Bolshevik) is an island in the Black Sea, belonging to the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. In 1924, there was a concentration camp on the island, from which in 1925 the convicts fled to the USSR. Based on these events, in 1958 the director Rangel Valchanov shot the famous film On a Small Island. By the way, on the same island, one of the leaders of the socialist movement in Bulgaria and the famous political figure Kraste Ivanov Pastukhov was imprisoned.

The island has an Orthodox church and a lighthouse, as well as a hotel and restaurant.

At the moment, thanks to the Regional Development program of the European Union and financial injections of 5 million levs, the island is turning into a significant cultural and historical tourism destination. The existing buildings are being restored and transformed, new ones are being built. Additional breakwaters are planned to be built to ensure the safety of visitors to the island when the sea is rough.

In the near future, visitors will be offered liqueurs according to traditional Bulgarian recipes and herbal teas, and the restaurant, which bears the tempting name "One Hundred Years Ago", will present dishes prepared according to authentic recipes of the past. It is also planned to build a stage where theater performances and concerts will be held. Visitors to the island can also be interested in the unique phenomena of the island, which bear the names "Dragon", "Sponge" and "Petrified Pirate Ship".
