Description of the attraction
Perhaps the most famous building in Velden is not considered to be a few elegant churches, and not the luxurious castle of the same name, now turned into a fashionable hotel. Velden's most recognizable building is the casino, operating since June 14, 1950.
That casino, which is a few round buildings with hipped roofs, which we see now on Europaplatz, was built in 1989. Prior to that, there was a less expressive and spacious building, which was erected in the middle of the 20th century to attract tourists to the developing resort of Velden.
In 1974, an open area was added to the old casino building, on which two gaming tables were installed. Unfortunately, there was no way to expand the casino building, so they decided to demolish it and build a new casino. In November 1987, construction began on a new entertainment complex. On May 26, 1989, the grand opening of the Velden casino took place, to which 4 thousand guests were invited. The constructed building was also not very large. Its area was only 270 square meters. Already in the 21st century, the building was increased to 1150 square meters. The casino consists of a games room, a bar, a restaurant with a terrace overlooking Lake Wörthersee and a new spacious auditorium.
In 2014, the next reconstruction of the casino took place. In front of it, there was a so-called "meeting area", that is, a covered passage leading from the road to the entrance to the casino. Thus, guests arriving by car on a rainy day could easily walk the red carpet right into the casino without using umbrellas or getting their shoes dirty.
At the same time, a local Walk of Fame was opened near the casino, where famous people leave their handprints.
