Description of the attraction
Pollane is an open-air natural park and geological museum in the Val d'Aosta region of Italy, which also functions as a sports center. Created in 1994, it spreads over an area of 10 hectares on the plain of the Dora Baltea river just a few kilometers from Aosta. In the Pollane area, you can find extensive lawns for various sports, a playground for children and circular jogging tracks. Each lawn has benches and drinking water fountains. Along the embankment, near which the "Grand Place" building stands, which is used as a multifunctional center, there is a special trail from which a 360º panorama opens up - it allows visitors to explore the most important geographical, geomorphological and geological elements of the area.
On three sides, the main building of Pollane is surrounded by a park with shrubs and trees (including the unique gingko biloba tree, which is called the "living fossil"). There you can also see several huge boulders - the main rocks that form the Val d'Aosta mountains. It is noteworthy that access to the park and to the "stone path" is specially equipped for people in wheelchairs. All stones are laid out in accordance with their geographical and geological origin, therefore, if you follow from one to another in the right order, you can take a virtual journey from the moraines of Dora Baltea to the majestic massif of Mont Blanc. Each boulder has a special information plate.
