Description of the attraction
The monastery of Santa Clara was founded in 1644 by nuns from the Colombian city of Cartagena. It is considered one of the oldest religious buildings in Havana. Its original purpose was to teach poor girls in this building. A charitable hospital is also located here. Then, later, the Ministry of Public Works was located here, which worked until 1982. After that, the monastery was returned to its historical status and former grandeur.
Tourists come here to enjoy the unique architectural style, the quiet courtyards of the monastery, and the magnificent interior of the numerous galleries.
At the end of the 20th century, the monastery building underwent a global restoration, as a result of which secret windows and doors, wall paintings, crypts, cannonballs and carved decorative elements were found in the premises. Today, all these unique antiques adorn the interior of the hotel, which was opened right in the building of the monastery. All hotel rooms have their own unique old style and are decorated in republican and colonial style.
