Description of the attraction
The RGGU Museum "Other Art" was opened in the Museum Center of the Russian State University for the Humanities in 2000. The Other Art Museum is dedicated to unofficial Russian art from 1950 to 1970. The collection of Leonid Prokhorovich Talochkin became the basis of the museum's collection.
Before the revolution of 1917, the Shanyavsky People's University was located in the old part of the building of the Russian State Humanitarian University. After the Great Patriotic War, part of the building was built in the “Stalinist Empire” style. This is where the Other Art Museum is located. The collection of the museum includes more than 1,500 works of art. The basis of the exhibition is made up of works by artists of the sixties. Later works of the late 1990s are also on display.
The circle of artists whose works are presented in the museum is impressive. These are the works of the masters of the Soviet underground: A. Abramov, S. Bordachev, V. Weisberg, B. Beach, R. Gerlovin, Y. Zharkikh, A. Zverev, V. Kalinin, Y. Kosagovsky, D. Krasnopevtsev, V. Kropivnitskaya and L. Kropivnitsky, E. Neizvestny, V. Nemukhin, V. Pyanov, A. Rabin, M. Roginsky, E. Rukhin, A. Kharitonov, O. Tselkov, V. Yankilevsky, S. Shutov and others.
The Museum Center of the Russian State University for the Humanities also houses the Academic Art Museum. I. V. Tsvetaeva, the Hall of Art of Ancient Mexico and the Exhibition Hall, which hosts a variety of exhibitions, including international ones. The Museum Center of the Russian State University for the Humanities today is a cultural and educational center and an innovative research area where the concept “Education through the arts” is being implemented.
