Description of the attraction
The Gomel Regional Museum of Military Glory was opened on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus in 2004. This year, only the first stage of the museum was opened. The museum was created on the initiative and with the support of the President of the Republic of Belarus A. G. Lukashenko, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus, the Gomel Regional Council of Deputies and the Air Force Command and Air Defense Forces of the Republic of Belarus.
On April 26, 2005, the opening of the entire museum complex in its entirety took place. The opening ceremony was attended by the President of Belarus A. G. Lukashenko.
At first, they wanted to set up beautiful flower beds in the courtyard of the museum building, but later the plans changed. Instead of flowers, an interesting exposition of military equipment from different years appeared, but, basically, these are equipment from the times of the Great Patriotic War. Here you can see tanks, cannons, artillery. There is also the largest exhibit for which a whole engineering operation was developed - the locomotive of the ambulance train, the steam locomotive ER 05.0.
Inside the museum there is an exposition dedicated to the military glory of the Gomel region from ancient times to modern times. Here you can see weapons, uniforms, special equipment. A separate exposition is dedicated to the Patriotic War of 1812 and the years of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
The museum also contains a large collection of historical documents and rare photographs of the war years. The most colorful and elegant is the Victory Hall. The banners of the victorious military units of the Soviet army are kept here.
