Description of the attraction
The Memorial of Military Glory is one of the historical monuments of Rybnitsa. The city itself is located on the left bank of the Dniester River, about 100 km from the capital and the largest city in the country - Chisinau. In total, there are 65 cultural monuments on the territory of Rybnitsa and Rybnitsa region, which are structurally subdivided into monuments of history, art, archeology, documentary, architecture and urban planning. Most of the monuments in the city and Rybnitsa region are historical monuments.
The Memorial of Military Glory was installed in 1975. The author of this project was the architect V. Mednek. The total height of the monument is 24 meters. The remains of the soldiers who died in the battles for the liberation of their city were transferred here.
In a prisoner of war camp, the Nazis killed 2,700 Soviet soldiers, in 1943 about 3 thousand Ukrainians - Rybnitsa residents were evicted near Ochakov, about 3 thousand people died from typhus in the Jewish ghetto and about 3,650 Rybnitsa residents died on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.
The mass graves in the old city cemetery testify to the number of the fallen soldiers: the mass graves of the victims of fascism, Soviet soldiers-liberators, Soviet patriots, as well as the mass grave of the Romanian anti-fascists.
The Memorial of Military Glory in Rybnitsa consists of two reinforced concrete pylons faced with white marble. There is an eternal flame under the structure. At the foot, on 12 huge granite slabs, you can see the carved names of the region's liberators. Nearby is a wall with an inscription that reads: "Nobody is forgotten, and nothing is forgotten."
From generation to generation, local residents cherish the memory of the soldiers-liberators who ensured a peaceful and free life for subsequent generations. Not a single solemn event in the city takes place without a visit to the Memorial of Military Glory.
