Description of the attraction

On July 26, 1959, in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, on the initiative of the Hero of the Soviet Union, submariner, Vice-Admiral G. I. Shchedrin, the Kamchatka Military History Museum was opened. It is the only large military museum in northeastern Russia.

The museum building is located next to the House of Naval Officers. The museum has one exhibition and four exhibition halls.

The museum acquaints visitors both with the main moments of the history of the Kamchatka Territory from the founding of the Petropavlovsk port to the present day, and with the stages of development of the armed forces based on the territory of Kamchatka.

The main excursions are held in four halls of the museum:

- Sightseeing tour of the museum exposition;

- Military history of Kamchatka;

- Kamchatka expeditions of the 18th century under the leadership of V. Bering and A. Chirikov;

- Defense of the Port of Peter and Paul from the Anglo-French landing in 1854.

- Russian-Japanese war of 1904-1905;

- Kamchatka during the Great Patriotic War (Kamchatka - to the front);

- Kuril airborne operation in 1945.

The fund of the museum comprises 12,000 storage units - collections of foreign and domestic firearms and edged weapons, medals and orders, battle flags, insignia, samples of military equipment, works of graphics, painting and sculpture.

The museum contains front-line diaries, photographs, memoirs and letters of participants in the Great Patriotic War and veterans of the Armed Forces. The pride of the museum is two dioramas "The feat of sailors Nikolai Vilkov and Pyotr Ilyichev" (Kuril landing operation in 1945) and "Defense of the Petropavlovsk port in 1854". Among the unique collections of the museum are exhibits that have survived from the time of the Second Kamchatka Expedition of Vitus Bering.

In the open air, on the territory of the park zone of the museum, there are: an exhibition of samples of military equipment and a monument to the crew of the L-16 submarine, which died during the Great Patriotic War in the Pacific Ocean.
