Description of the attraction

Near the Troodos mountain system, there is a very small but well-known village called Lefkara, which means "White Mountains" - the mountains at the foot of which Lefkara is really white.

Quiet and clean streets, neat houses and a lot of greenery attract both foreign tourists and Cypriots to the village. This place is a real open-air museum, because almost all the buildings there were built in the 19th - early 20th centuries. But most of all, Lefkara is famous for its silver products and beautiful lace. Almost the entire population of the village is engaged in the production of silver dishes and jewelry, as well as napkins, tablecloths, bedspreads and other delicate details. Walking through the narrow winding streets, where only two donkeys can miss, you can see local residents at their work and observe the complex and laborious process of creating the finest lace, which is even called "lefkaritika". According to the local population, Leonardo da Vinci once visited Lefkara, and he liked the local lace so much that he even bought several products, which he later presented to the Milan Cathedral to decorate the altar.

One of the main attractions of the village is the Church of St. Stavros, which is adorned with an amazing silver cross made by local craftsmen back in the 18th century. In addition, the carved iconostasis of this temple is no less famous.

Also in the village, it is worth visiting the Museum of Folk Art, taste traditional dishes and taste delicious local wine.
