Description of the attraction
Soroa tourist center is a truly heavenly place, which is considered a national treasure of the republic. In the eastern part of the Sierra del Rosario mountain range in the Pinar del Rio province, in 1943 in the small village of Soroa, a wealthy Spaniard decided to lay out a beautiful garden. For his beloved daughter, he collected a rare collection of flowers and plants. And the fertile soil, abundance of water, mild climate and humidity from the mountains allowed him to fulfill his dream. Today, only 4 thousand species of orchids grow on the territory of the experimental florist station. This is the second largest greenhouse in the world for these rare exotic flowers, second only in size to the greenhouse in Boston. The collection of flowers includes about 25,000 orchids, native to the most remote corners of the globe. Among them are one hundred species of orchids of Cuban origin. The most famous of these are the Black Orchid and the Chocolate Orchid. In addition to tropical beauties, magnolias, rose hips, philodendrons, palms, exotic ferns from all over the world grow in a small area of the garden. The fauna of the Soroa region is also rich, especially songbirds, hummingbirds and nightingales. Unique landscapes, stunning beauty of the greenhouse attract photographers and florists to the garden.
