Description of the attraction

Even in ancient times, Bodrum was famous for its marinas. Nowadays, they are even more popular and attract lovers of sea tourism from all over Europe.

Skilled local craftsmen still build traditional Turkish "Tihandils" as well as wide "gulets". Tihandila is the oldest type of vessel on the shores of the Aegean Sea. The surroundings of Bodrum are considered their homeland. They are rarely used these days due to the small number of cabins, although the deck is quite spacious. Tihandils usually have a triangular sail, they have a sharp bow and stern.

Gulets, on the other hand, have always been considered maneuverable and driven by a small number of people. They were used in both military and civilian fleets. This lightweight two-masted sailboat is round in shape and has a length of 18-20 meters. In Bodrum, these types of vessels are still used today. They conduct excursions, boat trips, and in October they participate in the annual regatta for the Bodrum Cup.

All of these watercraft dock at one of the three beautiful marinas in the city. The most famous of them, the city marina, is located directly opposite the castle of St. Peter and is designed for 275 yachts. The 12 berths of this marina are used for the inspection and repair of yachts. There is also the possibility of wintering yachts.

The second marina was built in the village of Turgutreis in the south-west of Bodrum and has a capacity of 500 yachts. There is a very developed infrastructure and a wide range of services. In the marina, you can refuel the yacht with fuel, use the laundry, dry cleaning, shower and toilet, visit the supermarket, call a taxi. You will be offered services such as water and electricity supply, telephone, fax, Internet access, doctor's assistance. In general, the marina has everything that a tourist might need on vacation.

The newest marina is located in Yalikavak, northwest of Bodrum. It is very spacious, with a large distance between the piers and is easy to maneuver. The capacity of the marina is 450 berths for mooring on the water and 100 places for storing yachts on land. Even yachts up to 65 meters long can be accommodated here. Marina is well positioned for technical service, including its own repair yard, which allows the yacht to be repaired on site.

Bodrum's marinas are comfortable and well equipped technically, which contributes to the popularization of maritime tourism. It should be noted that the picturesque coastline, favorable geographical position and rich sailing experience also speak of Turkey as a country destined for sea travel. Turkish marinas create comfortable working conditions and attract significant foreign investment.
