Description of the attraction
The South Star Ferris Wheel is a unique attraction opened in 2008 in Melbourne's Dockland area. Its diameter is 100 meters and its height is about 120, which puts the South Star on a par with such giant Ferris wheels as the London Eye, the Nanchang Star in China and the attraction in Singapore. 21 wheel cabins accommodate 420 people, who make a full revolution in half an hour.
The "South Star" is decorated with light-emitting diodes that turn on at night and create an unforgettable sight. The construction of this attraction, which lasted from 2006 to 2008, was spent about 100 million Australian dollars. However, a month after opening, the wheel was closed due to discovered defects. The renovation took several months, after which the South Star was reopened to the public, but, as it turned out, not for long. Since January 2011, large-scale renovations are being carried out on the attraction again.
