Description of the attraction
The Tropical Spice Garden is located on the north coast of Penang Island, near Teluk Bahang and the entrance to the National Park.
Once an abandoned rubber plantation, the Wilkinson couple has turned into an exotic spice garden. The rubber trees were left to create shade and cozy spots. The park is small, occupying eight acres of land in a valley between pretty hills.
The spice garden has existed recently - since 2003, but it immediately became obvious that the British Rebecca and David Wilkinson were in the eco-tourism trend.
A variety of exotic plants, and their 500 different species, and from different ecosystems, arranged in the form of three excursion routes.
The Spice Trail, with an emphasis on spices and spices, surprises not only with aromas, but also with interesting stories of origin and use. You can buy a brochure and explore the garden yourself, but it is better to listen to a guide who will tell you a lot about the unknown about the known spices. One of the stops on the route is decorated with stone mortars filled with different spices: vanilla, ginger, cinnamon, various peppers. The air around them is unusually rich in odors. And if you count the cost of these spices used to decorate the excursion, you get a fortune.
The second trail presents a huge collection of exotic flora. It is less informative, more decorative, you can walk on it without a guide. There is a small waterfall nearby, thanks to which a pond appeared in the garden, giant water lilies give it an outlandish look. There are many small waterfalls in the garden.
The third trail, the jungle trail, is a thicket of ferns, palms, wild orchids and other flora. During the excursions, a stop is made in the bamboo garden for tea.
On the territory there is a museum of spices and herbs, as well as a shop where you can buy cinnamon, aromatic oils, soap, etc.
Tips for tourists: at the entrance everyone is sprayed with mosquito repellent, but for reliability it is better to take with you. And shoes should be foreseen taking into account the hilly terrain.
