Mount Timfristos

Description of the attraction

Timfristos, or Veluhi, is a mountain range in Central Greece in the eastern part of Evrytania and the western part of Phthiotida, part of the Pindus mountain range. In the south, Timfristos is bordered by the Panaitoliko and Kalikuda mountain ranges, in the southeast - with the Vardusia ridge, and in the north - with the Agrafa mountains. The length of the Timfristos ridge is about 30 km, and the width is 15-20 km. The rivers Sperheyos and Megdova originate here. The highest peak of the ridge is Mount Velukhi, which is 2315 m above sea level. The Greek National Road 38 (Agrinion-Karpenisi-Lamia) runs south of the ridge.

The lower part of the mountain slopes is covered with dense, mainly pine forests, behind which there are picturesque "alpine meadows". In spring, summer and autumn, it is a great place for hikers. In winter, the peaks of Timfristos are covered with snow, thus creating ideal conditions for fans of winter sports.

On the slopes of Timfristos at an altitude of 1840 m above sea level, just 12 km from the city of Karpenisi, the administrative center of Evrytania, which is often referred to as "Greek Switzerland", is located one of the most famous ski resorts in Greece - "Karpenision" also known as the "Veluhi Ski Center ". The center received its first visitors back in 1974 and since then has been thoroughly transformed. Today "Karpenision" offers its guests 11 tracks of different difficulty levels (two tracks of increased difficulty, six medium and three easy ones) with a total length of more than 8 km, modern lifts, with a capacity of 5000 people per hour, professional instructors for beginners and all the necessary equipment for rent. You can stop both in the very center (though it is worth considering that the number of places is limited) and in Karpenisi. The season starts in mid December and lasts until the end of March.
