Description of the attraction

The local history museum in the city of Yelsk is already 35 years old. It was founded in 1976 on the basis of the Museum of People's Glory, which has existed since 1966. At the moment, the museum has more than 3871 items. The total area of the museum exposition is 103 square meters.

The museum tells the history of the city. The first exposition "Revolution, Civil War, the period of collectivization" tells about the difficult revolutionary years, the first collective farms and collective achievements.

The theme of the second exposition is “The Great Patriotic War”. Here you can find interesting materials about the underground and partisan movement, about the crimes of the fascist invaders, about the liberation of the city from the fascist army. Here is a gallery of fame that immortalized the names of the heroes, their military awards, photographs, and personal belongings.

The Department of Nature shows the diversity of local flora and fauna. Stuffed animals are collected in picturesque compositions showing the life of wild animals. Collections of insects and medicinal plants of the region are also exhibited here.

The rich ethnographic collection is presented in the form of a traditional Belarusian hut. Here you can admire the national clothes made by the hands of Belarusian craftsmen - weavers, dressmakers, embroiderers. There are also items of folk craftsmen: potters, woodcarvers, blacksmiths.

The museum is doing a lot of exhibition work. Its halls regularly host exhibitions of works by masters of applied art, painting, graphics, and sculpture. Interesting meetings, literary evenings, and holidays are held here.
