A trip to Africa may well be either the worst travel trip of your life, or a regular tourist trip. It all depends on which country you plan to visit.
South Africa
If you are planning a trip to the so-called "Black Africa", then the transport system is available in South Africa. The roads here are in good condition, almost 1/3 of all existing highways are paved. But almost all major highways in this country are toll.
There is also a domestic flight in the country, so you can easily get from one major city to another. The main air carrier of the country is South African Airways. In total, there are nine large airport complexes in the country that receive international flights.
But public transport in the country leaves much to be desired. It is represented here by double-decker buses and minibuses. Used exclusively by the poor black population. White-skinned residents use only cars for movement.
The total length of the railway in the country is 26,332 kilometers. And it is the longest and most extensive rail network on the entire continent. There are railway stations in all major cities in South Africa. The main purpose of railways is to transport goods. In addition, they are used for tourism purposes.
Algeria
The main way to travel around the country is by buses and trains. But travel by bus will be much cheaper (this is the way of travel chosen by the locals).
Urban transport is represented by buses, taxis, minibuses and metro (in the capital of the state).
The bus service between the cities is well developed. The cars are quite comfortable and have air conditioning systems.
Egypt
Buses are the main means of transportation in the country. They are used both for city trips and for intercity traffic.
The trips would be quite comfortable if not for the desire of car drivers to fill the cabin with passengers to capacity.
Tunisia
As elsewhere, in Tunisia, the main means of transportation is the bus. In addition, it is the cheapest and fastest way to travel around the country. In the summer, cars leave at night to avoid the terrible heat of the day.
There are only six international airports in the country. Domestic flights are not successful.
The roads in the country are in perfect condition, but it is not recommended to travel around the country in a rented car. It is not customary to follow the rules of the road in the country!
The railway connection is well developed. Trains adhere to the set schedule.
