The "wet" continent is famous for its natural attractions, but for tourists the most interesting are the waterfalls of South America, visiting which they gladly include in their holiday program.
Angel
The location of the waterfall, with a total height of more than 900 m, is tropical forests, which can be reached by motor boat or helicopter. Here you can meet monkeys, porcupines, royal vultures, hummingbirds and other animals and birds.
Kaieteur
The waterfall, over 220 m high and over 90 m wide, is surrounded by untouched nature and is considered one of the most impressive and beautiful in the world. Trips (the best period - April-August) to him are organized from the capital of Guyana - Georgetown on a small plane. Another option is to go on a 3-day hike, but in this case, travelers should have good physical preparation, since such a route is extremely difficult.
Gokta
It has a height of more than 770 m (the waterfall consists of 2 cascades), and in its vicinity there is the Sierra - the habitat of toucans, spectacled bears, cougars and other animals that are endangered.
Tourists are advised to use the services of guides - residents of the villages of Kokachimba and Koka (you must register at the community house by paying 10 soles). You can only go on a hike that takes several hours with a guide, otherwise travelers will have to confirm in writing that they are aware of the possible dangers.
Tequendama
The waterfall, with a total height of more than 150 m in the cascade, is located in a forested area. Visiting it, everyone will have the opportunity to hear a beautiful legend about its origin from the lips of local residents.
Today, not every tourist decides to come to Tequendama to admire its beauty, in particular, from the windows of the hotel, which is built on the opposite side of the gorge. This is due to the unpleasant smell (sewage drains have been drained into the river). But thanks to the measures taken to solve this problem, a tourist flow will soon rush here again.
San Rafael
The double cascade water falls from a height of 150 meters; the waterfall is surrounded by a tropical forest and is located at the foot of the Reventador stratovolcano. You can admire San Rafael (the width of the waterfall is 14 m) from the observation deck (a great place for taking photos), which can be reached via a special trail.
