Description of the attraction
The Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos is located on the very outskirts of the village of Borovik, in the forest, on the southwest side of the church, a small river Dochkina flows. Along the perimeter of the entire church there is a churchyard, which is surrounded by a wooden fence and surrounded by brick gates. Throughout the 19th century, the village of Borovik was related to the Gdovsky district in the Petrograd province. According to some information, which were obtained from the words of local old-timers, the Church of the Intercession was erected by a certain peasant named Grigory Anufrievich Anufriev.
The church was built in 1897, it is a pillarless, one-apse and tree-lined temple with a boulder foundation. The temple stretches slightly east-west. The main and relatively small, cube-shaped, two-story volume with a multi-pitched roof and five decorative domes, on the eastern part is adjoined by a somewhat reduced volume of a pentahedral apse, on the west side - a reduced volume of the refectory room, as well as the vestibule, which has a two-tier hipped roof bell tower, which balances the vertical of the main quadrangle.
The centrally located parts of the facades are equipped with tongs. The semi-gable roofs have slopes and adjoin the four-pitched roof, making up the twelve-pitched roof of the four-sided roof; in the central part of the quadrangle there is a large octahedral drum, which ends in the form of a bulbous dome, completed with a cross, at the base of which is an apple. Four small chapters are installed at all corners of the quadrangle. The drums have octahedral projecting pedestals equipped with ebbs; at the base of the chapters there are rather massive cornices. The church facades are completely sheathed with planks, while the decoration is uncomplicated. On the cornices, window frames and moorings there are ordinary patterns of a vegetative and geometric nature, made with saw-cut carvings. The main double-height volume has a division in the form of a common cornice with a patterned root. There are pilasters at all corners of the walls.
The temple window openings are equipped with flat platbands with carved tops made of a curling stem. The window openings of the northern and southern facades are paired and have a common casing. On the side of the eastern façade, there is a gable canopy supported by carved brackets and decorated with patterned quilts and a wooden cross. Before that, an icon was located here, but at the moment there is an old stone cross, which is attached with a wire to the wall.
Two bell tiers in the plan are square and are separated from each other by a cornice traction. The front parts of the bell tier have decorative design in the form of pilasters, and bell openings - with gable lintels. The central parts of the facades are equipped with tongs, and the crowning of the bell tower facades is done with cornices with mooring.
The church tent is octahedral. The edges located at the cardinal points are especially wide, but the intermediate ones, on the contrary, are narrow. False lucarnes with the depicted clock are available on wide edges. The completion of the tent is made with the help of a massive cornice with an ebb, which serves as a pedestal for an octahedral drum, which bears a bulbous head, and under its ebb there are patterned quilts. At the end, a cross and an apple are presented. The church roofs are metal and the crosses are made of wood. On the side of the western facade of the vestibule, as well as the northern facade of the quadrangle, identical porches are made, equipped with wooden posts, which carry a gable roof. The apse is covered with a five-pitched roof, but the narthex and the refectory are three-pitched. The overlap of the octagon is made by an octahedral dome lined with boards. The narthex, refectory and altar have a flat ceiling.
The interior decoration of the Church of the Intercession is based on the tastes of the provincial merchants. The church has a two-tiered iconostasis, equipped with a pommel and pedestal, as well as plant carvings, made in a dry manner.
To this day, the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos has been preserved in its original form.
