Description of the attraction
La Thuile is a small resort town in the Italian region of Val d'Aosta, lying at the very foot of Mont Blanc and combining modern architecture and the relaxed atmosphere of a quiet mountain village. In winter, there is always a lot of snow in the vicinity of the town, which attracts skiers here. The pistes are wide and the slopes are very difficult, mostly designed for confident skiers and ski professionals. If you wish, you can go to the French resort of La Rosier, with which La Thuile is connected by a lift system, or to the neighboring Courmayeur. The total length of pistes in the San Bernardo ski area, which includes the resort, is about 150 km. All slopes lie at an altitude of 1200-1500 meters above sea level and are served by 38 lifts.
There are places for skiing and cross-country skiing - around La Thuile, among the coniferous forests, there are several special trails. Heli-skiing is also well developed - one of the most interesting routes passes through the Rueitor glacier and goes to La Rozier.
In their free time, guests of La Thuile can get acquainted with the history and monuments of this wonderful town. In ancient times, together with the settlements of La Salle, Morges, Pré-Saint-Didier and Courmayeur, it was part of the Vallis Digna road, which connected Aosta with France. Today La Thuile can offer its guests a visit to the Chanoisia Alpine Botanical Garden with an amazing collection of mountain plants, founded in 1897 by a local abbot. Of the religious buildings, it is worth highlighting the parish church, the first mention of which is found back in 1093! Another church - San Lorenzo, standing in the neighboring town of Pre-Saint-Didier, is notable for its bell tower - one of the oldest in Aosta.
In summer, La Thuile becomes like a real green oasis against the backdrop of the majestic Mont Blanc. To services of tourists - hiking to breathtaking waterfalls, walks through flowering meadows and coniferous forests, rafting on deep rivers and much more. One of the interesting routes starts at the foot of the Ryuitor Glacier and leads to the Deffi mountain hut, and from there the path goes up to the glacial lakes and the Orgere and Cavanne valleys.
You can get to La Thuile from Milan or Geneva - the journey by car will take about 3 hours. The nearest train station is in Pré-Saint-Didier, and there is a regular bus from there to the resort.
