Description of the attraction
Approximately 150 km from the city of St. Petersburg, there is the Issadsky Troitsky churchyard, which stands on the right bank of the Volkhov River. Even in ancient times, there was a monastery on this place called "Trinity on Zlatyn", which was ravaged during the Time of Troubles. From the former monastery, there are two churches built of wood: a warm church consecrated in the name of St. Modest, and a cold one in honor of the Holy Trinity.
The second of the churches was dismantled due to dilapidation in 1858, and in its place a stone one appeared, built on the funds of Countess Borkh Sophia Ivanovna, merchant Kulagin Nazariy Fomich and General Filosofov Alexei Illarionovich; some of the money was collected thanks to donations collected by the priest Travin John. For the construction of the church, bricks were used, made at a brick factory located at the estate called Zagvozye, and the necessary iron was delivered by Countess Sophia Ivanovna. The new stone church was consecrated in the name of the Holy Trinity. The church had two side-chapels: one was consecrated in the name of Alexy, and the other in the name of the Holy Martyr Nazarius.
In 1766, a church dedicated to Saint Modest was built on the site of a previously existing temple. The letter of Demetrius has survived to this day, in which permission was given for the consecration of the temple, signed by the Metropolitan of Veliky Novgorod. The letter contains special instructions concerning the examination of the church before the rite of consecration. The consecration of the church Antimension took place on October 30, 1792 by Metropolitan Gabriel. In the temple of Modest there was an ark made of tin, intended for storing gifts, on which a silver cross with the relics of Saints Guria, Barsanuphius and Herman of Kazan is visible.
On December 18, 1867, the consecration of a new stone church in the name of Saint Modest took place. The construction of the temple was envisaged according to the project of the talented architect Musselius. The icons of the Holy Mother of God the Mammal, which was brought in 1875 from Athos, as well as the icons of St. Panteleimon, brought in 1879 from the same places, were placed in the new stone church. Initially, the church parables consisted of a sexton, deacon, priest and deacon, but in 1843 the office of deacon was abolished. The names of the priests of the Church of St. Modest are known: Lukyanov Simeon, Fedorov Nikita, Travin Ioann.
Even before the onset of the states of parables, he lived on income for services, and also received money from Countess Borch, or rather from her peasants, in silver for 150 rubles. Starting in 1843, the church parable, according to the 4th category, began to receive 320 rubles a year. For the needs of the temple, 10 acres of arable land and 23 dessiatines of hay land were allocated. Out of all the allotment provided for, the mallet received 2 tithes, the clergy - 6 tithes, and the priest had 19 acres of land at his disposal. It is known that in addition to the salary, the parables received some interest on three tickets in the form of 100 rubles, which were awarded by the merchants Berezhkov, Shavkunov and Dementyev. The placement of the parable was envisaged in their own homes.
As for the church parishes, the parishes became neighboring: Podberezhsky, Nemyatovsky, Rogozhsky, Vegotsky and Novoladozhsky. According to the calculations made in due time, the number of church parishioners was 563 men and 632 women. A postal road to the city of Arkhangelsk was laid through the parish, as well as a small country road leading to Tikhvin. Most of the parishioners were engaged in various trades, shipping, fishing and arable farming.
Since 1935, the Church of the Holy Trinity did not work and in 1941 was finally closed. The Church of Saint Modestus was also closed in 1937, and in the first year of the outbreak of the war, it stopped working. Until mid-1978, the premises of the churches were used as warehouses for the Novoladozhsky state farm.
In the summer of July 12, 2005, both churches were transferred into the hands of the St. Petersburg Diocese. Today the temple of St. Modest and the Holy Trinity are architectural monuments of the 19th century and are under state protection. Restoration work is underway.
