The Museum of Contemporary History of Russia is located in the center of Moscow and is located in a building that is an architectural monument of the late 18th century. It was built in the style of late classicism by architects Gilardi and Menelas. Most of the rooms have well-preserved interior decoration. The building has been restored. In 1831 - 1917. the English club was located here.
The year of foundation of the museum is 1917. VP Kranichfeld made a proposal to create a "Museum of the Revolution" - he applied to the Executive Committee of Moscow public organizations. In April 1917, it was decided to establish the Museum of the Revolution.
Since 1998, the museum has been called the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia. Its employees developed a new concept for the development of the museum, created a modern exposition based on a serious analysis of the events of the past. The museum exposition has a bright artistic solution. It uses the most modern technical means.
Nowadays, the museum is a scientific and methodological center, where they study and museum presentation of the events of the modern history of Russia. The museum funds are constantly replenished. The museum exposition reflects the important events of the last one hundred and fifty years, which determined the development of the Russian state and society.
The Museum of Contemporary History of Russia has several exhibition rooms and memorial departments - "Underground Printing House 1905-1906", "Presnya", memorial apartment of G. Krzhizhanovsky, "Finding Freedom", "Museum-Gallery of E. Evtushenko."
