Description of the attraction
The A. D. Sakharov Museum-Apartment is located on the first floor of a residential twelve-storey building (left wing) on which a memorial plaque to A. D. Sakharov is installed. There is a bas-relief at the entrance to the staircase.
The exposition of the museum consists of two parts: the exposition hall, which contains materials that give an idea about the whole life and work of Andrei Dmitrievich Sakharov, about his ancestors, about his scientific and social activities; as well as a memorial part - an exiled apartment in which A. D. Sakharov spent seven long years from January 1980 to December 1986.
The atmosphere in the apartment was recreated at the time the disgraced academician moved into it. One of the sections of the exposition tells about the scientific activities of Academician Sakharov on the creation of thermonuclear weapons, a hydrogen bomb during his work at the Sarov Federal Nuclear Center (SFNC), a video film “Andrei Sakharov - Secret Years” (about the creation and first test of nuclear weapons) is shown.
