Description of the attraction
One of the most interesting places in the city of Kryvyi Rih is the popular Museum of Local Lore. Museum with a total area of 800 sq. meters is located on Kaunasskaya street, 16.
The Kryvyi Rih Museum of History and Local Lore was opened in 1960. It presents cultural and historical items from the heritage of the region from the Stone Age to the present day. In the collection of the museum there are more than 54 thousand exhibits, among which there are: archaeological finds, materials illustrating the history of the city, objects of applied and fine arts, photographs, documents on the history of Kryvyi Rih of the 19th-20th centuries. In the building of the city museum of local lore, materials of historical and art history are constantly exhibited.
The following expositions are presented in the Museum of Local Lore - the history of pre-Soviet and Soviet society and the nature of the region. Of particular value among the exhibits of the museum are items excavated by archaeologists in the Tsarev's grave. It is she who is considered one of the largest archaeological monuments of republican significance in Ukraine. The mound with a diameter of 106 meters was 12 meters high. The city museum contains a stone box, ornamented vessels, a bronze awl and a bone buckle from this burial mound. In addition, another interesting exhibit of the museum is the shaman's burial mask and an ornamented ax found in the burial monuments of Privorotnaya gully during excavations. Also in the museum are flint implements that testify to the fact that in ancient times people were engaged in fishing and hunting.
Despite such a rich collection, the staff of the Museum of Local Lore still carry out search, research, scientific and educational work. Every year in the Kryvyi Rih Museum of History and Local Lore, exhibitions of art history and historical character are regularly held.
