Description of the attraction
The small resort village Becici is chosen by fans of beach holidays. It is located just 3 km from Budva, so lovers of historical sights will not be disappointed either.
Like any Adriatic village that mainly lives on tourists, Becici consists of hotels, cafes, restaurants and shops. But do not forget that the ancestors of local residents lived here long before Becici became a popular resort. And this means that there simply must be a church that accepted believers. This temple, consecrated in honor of St. Thomas (or Tome, as the people of Montenegro call it), is located in a wonderful pine grove right above the famous city beach. Therefore, tourists who are tired of basking in the sun sometimes wander here. Many of them ascend to the church along a rather steep ladder straight from the beach in shorts and with open arms, which, of course, is not acceptable. You can also walk to the temple from the side of urban residential areas.
In many sources you can read that the church has been decorating Becici since the XIV century. Unfortunately, the original, ancient temple was destroyed at the beginning of the last century. The structure that we see now was erected on the foundations of an ancient church in 1910. It has one more patron saint besides Saint Thomas. This is Stefan Stiljanovic, a Serbian prince who was later recognized as a saint. He was born in the local area and is highly revered by the locals. In the temple, you can see pieces of his relics, which were donated to the church by the priests of Belgrade in 2007.
