Description of the attraction
The Shamov hospital is named after the merchant Yakov Filippovich Shamov. In 1908, he allocated money for the design and construction of the city hospital. Construction began in 1908. The place was allocated by the city authorities near the city center, on a hill, at the picturesque edge of the ravine. The author of the project, K. S. Oleshkevich, supervised the construction work. AV Repin assisted him in the preparation of technical documentation. The workers were paid regularly, weekly, and they worked diligently.
The building was three-story, with a high basement. The decoration of the building was in the Art Nouveau style. This was the reason for the recognition of the Shamov hospital building as an architectural monument. The building is an example of civil architecture with a special purpose. On the plan, the hospital building resembles the letter "Ш", the first letter of the benefactor's surname.
The premises in the building have been designed specifically for hospital needs. The hospital had the most modern equipment at that time. From the first years of its existence, the hospital had the closest ties with the Kazan Medical University.
Ya. F. Shamov did not live to see the opening of the hospital. The hospital was opened by Shamov's wife, Agrafena Khrisanfovna Shamova. She continued her husband's business, investing new money in construction. The grand opening in 1910 was attended by the flower of Kazan society, numerous doctors and builders. The governor, the head of the city, the commander of the Kazan military district and representatives of the city council signed a commemorative copy of the act on the opening of the new hospital.
The hospital was financed from the city budget, but treatment there was paid. About 8 rubles a month. Some of the places were supported by charitable funds donated by merchants.
After the revolution of 1917, the Shamovskaya hospital was renamed into the First City Clinical Hospital named after Professor Teregulov. Since 2009, the building of the Shamov hospital has been closed for reconstruction.
