Description of the attraction
Skeleton Coast National Park stretches for 500 km from the Kunene River in the north to the Ugab River in the south. Its area is about 16,000 sq. Km. The main attraction of this backcountry lies mainly in its colors, shifting moods and unspoilt landscape. The scenery of the Skeleton Coast is varied - from breathtaking endless dunes to mountain ranges and rugged canyons, the walls of which are richly painted with all the colors of volcanic rocks. The skeletons of ships, here and there, scattered along the coast, testify to the many shipwrecks that occurred off these deserted shores. The northern part of the Skeleton Coast is a concession area and is only open to tourists arriving on safari by plane. The southern part, between the rivers Ugab and Hoanib, is open to all visitors. However, due to the environmental vulnerability of the area as a whole, it is considered a nature reserve managed by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
