Description of the attraction
The Kharkiv Children's Railway is located in the cozy city central park of culture and recreation. M. Gorky and Forest Park. The children's and youth division of the "Southern Railway" is engaged in the education of future railway workers.
The railway was built in 1940. In the same year, the train set off for the first time on the route: Gorky Park - Lesopark. Following this route, the train continues to the present day.
The forest park is a huge forest area bordering Gorky Park. Its area is more than 2 thousand hectares. The narrow-gauge road is 3 km 600 m long. The main station of the station "Park" was built according to the project of architect. E. Lymar.
During the Great Patriotic War, the road was completely destroyed. In August 1945, the railway was restored, after which it was reopened. In 2000. for the anniversary of the railway, reconstruction works of the station, track facilities and other structures were carried out. A platform - "Memorial" was also built.
The "Malaya Yuzhnaya" operates diesel locomotives, about a dozen passenger cars and two steam locomotives, which, unfortunately, do not work yet. The children's railway along the entire route passes under the road bridge, passes one bridge and has three stops. Every year, from May to November, young railway workers and students of Kharkov schools have the opportunity to gain useful knowledge and practical skills here. The guys learn to drive trains, work as conductors, dispatchers and switchmen.
The area around the Children's Railway, immersed in the greenery of trees and flowers, attracts with its picturesque landscape, bright and fabulous constructions. Residents and guests of Kharkiv annually visit Malaya Yuzhnaya with great pleasure, which for the sixth time was recognized as the best in Ukraine.
