Children's Railway (Malaya Sverdlovskaya) - one of the attractions of Yekaterinburg, located in the southeast of the city in the picturesque Central Park of Culture and Leisure named after V. Mayakovsky.
A train with diesel locomotives and wagons under the name "Young Uralets" runs by rail. On Malaya Sverdlovskaya there is a railway station (Centralnaya station), two stations, overpasses, two high platforms, a pedestrian bridge and a crossing. In addition, there is also a locomotive connection, a depot, a boiler room, turnouts and railway traffic lights. The embarkation and disembarkation of young passengers is carried out at the station. As for the stations, the train only stops at them for 2-3 minutes, the announcer announces the names of the stations and the train continues on its way. The total length of the railway is 3.8 km.
For the first time, the decision to build the Yekaterinburg Children's Railway was made by local authorities in the late 1950s. The project was drawn up by the summer of 1958 and construction work began in the same year. A significant amount of work was carried out by the pioneers and Komsomol members of the city on subbotniks and Sundays. In July 1960, the grand opening of the children's railway took place in Sverdlovsk. She was named after the famous Soviet writer - N. Ostrovsky.
In the spring of 1960, eight passenger cars were delivered from the PAFAWAG plant, and the TU2-092 diesel locomotive from the Kaluga machine-building plant. A little later, another diesel locomotive TU2-141 was handed over to the railway. It is worth noting that the entire rolling stock, in addition to the three cars that were decommissioned in the early 1990s, is still in operation today.
In 2009-2010, the railways carried out the replacement of the rails with the repair of the track. In September 2010, the reconstruction of Malaya Sverdlovskaya began. In May 2010, a new diesel locomotive TU7A-3355 and three more passenger cars from the Kambara Machine-Building Plant were delivered to the children's railway, and two years later - a diesel locomotive TU10-013. The renewed Yuny Uralets rolling stock began operating on the new line in June 2011.
