Description of the attraction
La Serena Japanese Park is an amazing theme park located on an area of 26,000 square meters. and is the largest Japanese garden in South America. In his collection you can see plants and animals of the delightful land of the rising sun.
La Serena Park of Japan was built with the participation of several mining and processing companies in Chile and Japan, mainly Compañía Minera del Pacífico (Chile's mining company) and Nippon Steel Corporation (Japanese steel company). The creation of a park with a typical Japanese landscape was one of the friendly agreements between the sister cities of La Serena and the Japanese city of Tenri in 1966.
The Japanese park was officially opened on August 26, 1994 in celebration of the 450th anniversary of the founding of the city of La Serena.
The park, designed by the landscape designer Akira Ohiro, is located in the center of La Serena near the ocean coast, opposite the Pedro de Valdivia Park. Several attractions can be seen in the park, including Japanese sakura, bamboo lattice fences, rock garden, artificial lagoons and a traditional Japanese bridge. Also, various types of ducks, swans live here, and goldfish swim in the pond. Islands, lagoons, cascading waterfalls and small forests of the park are connected by sophisticated artificial paths with gazebos, pagodas and bridges with elements of Japanese decor.
The gate of the Japanese Garden of La Serena is open to visitors every day from 10:00 to 18:00 hours.
