Description of the attraction

Indira Gandhi is an incredibly significant figure in the history of modern India. The Memorial Museum, created in her honor, is housed in a large, but rather simple white building that was her residence during her time as Prime Minister. Shortly after her murder in 1984, the house was turned into a museum.

Its exposition is quite modest, but it contains very interesting exhibits - photographs of Indira Gandhi with famous political and public figures, such as with Mahatma Gandhi and Richard Nixon, documents and her personal belongings. The collection tells about her life, starting from childhood. You can also see her bedroom, in which all the objects remained in the same places as during her lifetime. Some of the main examples of the museum's collection are the last manuscript of Indira Gandhi, supposedly written the night before the murder, and her bloody sari, in which she was shot by her own bodyguards.

The museum also has an exposition dedicated to the son of Indira Gandhi - Rajiv, which, among other exhibits, displays photographs taken by the politician himself, and the burnt clothes that were on him during the bombing that led to the death of Rajiv.

The memory of Indira Gandhi lives on in the hearts of the people, and therefore this memorial museum is a very popular place, especially among Indian citizens who come there to pay tribute to their beloved leader.
