Description of the attraction
Techelsberg am Wörther See is an Austrian village located in the area of the city of Klagenfurt in the federal state of Carinthia on the shores of Lake Wörthersee.
Techelsberg was first mentioned in documents from 1319. The name Tohelach originated from the patron saint of the parish, the Church of St. Martin, which was built in the middle of the 12th century.
Techelsberg has several attractions that residents are very proud of. The parish church of St. Martin, built in Romanesque style, is located in the northern part of the village. The Chapel of Saint Joseph is located in the forest east of the forest lake. The priest's house, which was built about 500 years ago, is now used by the clergy for personal needs.
The Fortsee hydroelectric power plant, launched in 1925, was the first in Carinthia.
Not far from Techelsberg, there is a marble quarry, where white marble with pink veins was previously mined, which was used in large quantities in construction in Klagenfurt.
