A ghost can be encountered anywhere: in an old manor house, on the street, and even in a crowded hotel. Brave tourists, imagining themselves in their dreams as hunters for all evil spirits, are glad when they see the inscription on the booking sites: “Caution! Ghosts in hotels. Our list of such hotels is only for the most courageous travelers!
Hotel-liner "The Queen Mary", Long Beach, USA
The former legendary liner "The Queen Mary", which has sailed the oceans since the 1930s, now stands forever in Long Beach, USA, and is used as a fashionable hotel.
The Queen Mary was in operation for 31 years - until 1967. During the Second World War, it was converted into a warship, called the "Gray Ghost" and once even transported more than 16 thousand soldiers at the same time across the Atlantic Ocean. People slept on hanging bunks installed in all ship rooms, and those 3,500 people who did not have enough berths just sat on the deck. The conditions were terrible - people could not stand the heat and died.
Soldiers also died in the hospital, which worked in the first class cabin. But the largest number of deaths on the liner occurred on October 2, 1942, when the Gray Ghost was sunk due to a collision with another ship. Then they could not save more than 300 soldiers, who, naturally, turned into ghosts that frighten the modern guests of "The Queen Mary".
There are a lot of ghosts on the ship, they say, their number reaches 600. The most famous local ghosts are as follows:
- a man in a formal black suit who appears in parts of the ship for the management team and always ignores the managers, who consider him a living person, lost on the liner;
- Jackie is a 5-year-old girl who drowned in a pool, which is now replaced by a theater salon on the ship;
- Captain Stark, who loves to approach tourists and show them the place where he died;
- Winston Churchill, who did not die on the ship, but had his own cabin here, and his spirit still smokes cigars here;
- Sarah is a lady, like Jackie, who drowned in the pool, but at the same time very aggressively guards the place of her death.
Hotel "National", Moscow, Russia
In Russia, unlike the rest of the world, hotels do not boast of their ghosts, fearing a decrease in the number of guests. On the official websites of Russian hotels, you will not find references to ghosts, which have long since become a part of urban folklore.
They say that ghosts also live in the Moscow National. After 1917, this hotel hosted the leaders of the new Bolshevik government of Russia. Vladimir Lenin and his wife stayed in room 107, which now costs exorbitant money, for only 7 days. Probably, the leader of the revolution really liked the new apartments, because he began to appear in them after his death.
Until now, in the 107th issue of "National" there is some kind of devilry. The guests see the shadow of Vladimir Ilyich, hear how he mixes sugar in a glass, how he walks around the bedroom and even moves furniture. Sometimes he just "works" at the table, sorting through papers. Or, for no reason at all, turns off the light. Often the guests of the room notice the silhouette of Lenin in the mirror.
Complaining about a ghost to the staff is useless: at best, they will look at you like crazy, because it is not customary to talk about ghosts here, as if they did not exist.
Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, Banff Wildlife Sanctuary, Canada
In the Banff National Park in the Rocky Mountains of Canada, near Calgary, you can come at least for the sake of staying in the luxurious castle hotel "Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel". This complex was erected in 1888 and since then has acquired a bunch of "skeletons in closets".
For a long time, there were rumors that this hotel has a real secret room. It seems that a fatal mistake was made during the construction of the hotel, and one of the rooms was walled up. The hard workers who worked hard at the construction site were frightened by the customer's indignation and simply "forgot" to tell him about the completely isolated room on the 8th floor.
Soon the secret room reminded of itself. Guests from the rooms next to her constantly heard extraneous rustles and creaks, complained to the managers, but they just shrugged.
The abandoned room was discovered in 1926 after a massive fire. The legend immediately appeared in the hotel that the ghosts of those who died during the construction of the complex in the Rocky Mountains lived in these apartments.
A few years later, the hotel was renovated, and another number was made in the secret room, marking it with the numbers 873. And this was a fatal mistake, because the room began to kill guests.
They say that once a whole family was sent to the next world. The killers did not spare even a small child who left indelible pens on the mirror.
The room was filled with ominous sounds again, the hotel staff were frightened and went on strike. The innkeeper decided to get rid of the scary room by re-bricking his door.
Rooms 873 at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel are not yet available. Behind apartment # 872 you can find room # 874. Particularly curious guests of the hotel are sure to look on the wall for evidence of the existence of a terrible room - cracks indicating that there was once another door here.
But that's not all. The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel is filled with ghosts. For example, the ghost of a bellboy named Sam lives here. He loves to pester guests, offering to bring things or show the way to a restaurant. Moreover, he does not take a tip, considering it his duty to serve guests for free.
This is the cast of employee Sam McCauley, who was so devoted to the hotel that when he was fired, he came home and died of grief. And then he returned to the hotel as a ghost.
The spirit of the bride also lives in the hotel, walking along the central staircase of the castle in a white dress. The girl is said to have celebrated her wedding at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and died during the ceremony, caught on fire by a lighted candle. Sometimes the ghost of the bride performs a slow dance in the main hall of the hotel.
